STAR- Standing Together Against Rape

Standing Together Against Rape is a 24-hour crisis intervention program to assist sexual assault victims and their families. STAR is a stand-alone facility that provides inhouse forensic sexual assault exams. Individuals are encouraged to come to the facility instead of going to the hospital, unless they are physically injured. STAR provides free advocacy and accompaniment for victims to the hospital, law enforcement, and court, following an assault.

All counseling is based on the empowerment model which holds that the victim knows what is best for his or her own recovery.

STAR employs master’s level counselors to provide free counseling that facilitates recovery from victim to survivor. We offer individual counseling and emotional support to victim's families and/or significant other. We provide group counseling for victims to share their experience and support. All counseling is based on the empowerment model, which holds that the victim knows what is best for his or her own recovery.



STAR also provides numerous programs to raise awareness and educate those in our community. Some of our topics include acquaintance rape, date-rape drugs, safety in today’s world, rape trauma syndrome, and many others. STAR will speak to any group of any age to increase awareness on the issue of sexual assault.
STAR is a sponsoring member of the Sexual Assault Response Team of Montgomery (SART), which in turn sponsors the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE). SANE’s are trained in forensic evidence collection and will collect the physical evidence required for trial.

If You Are Raped…

Report it to the police immediately. This is not the same thing as prosecuting. You can decide later if you want to prosecute.

Do not bathe or douche. This may be the first thing you want to do but it could destroy valuable evidence.

You may change your clothing, but do not wash it as you may destroy evidence. Save your clothing. Please bring clothing to the facility or give them to the police.
